Postrgraduate Studies
In the field of postgraduate studies for advanced training, in accordance with the license of the Ministry of Education and Science, the NSC «Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI» provides training for individuals with higher education in the specialty 081 “Law” under the educational program “Theoretical, Organizational and Procedural Issues of Forensic Science”.
Additionally, the Kyiv Branch carries out such educational activities at the postgraduate level as:
• advanced training for private and state notaries, consultants of state notarial offices, state notarial archive notaries, assistants to private notaries;• training and advanced training of arbitration managers;• advanced training of civil servants.
In total, in 2024, 3006 students were trained and received the relevant testimonials and certificates at the Kyiv Branch of the NSC FSI. The NSC FSI plans to continue its active work in the field of postgraduate education, expanding the list of educational programmes and improving the material and technical base.

In 2025, the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” conducted research under 63 topics included in the Thematic Research Plan of the forensic science institutions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and 11 topics included in the 2025 Research Plan of the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI”.
R&D projects on 39 topics were completed in accordance with the Thematic R&D Plan of the forensic science institutions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

In 2026, 58 R&D projects are scheduled under the Thematic R&D Plan of the forensic science institutions of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, along with 12 projects under the internal plan of the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI”.

The Theory and Practice of Forensic Science and Criminalistics Research Paper Collection, founded in 2001 by the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” and Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, is a specialized scientific publication in legal sciences focusing on criminalistics and forensic science activities. It is published regularly four times a year in parallel Ukrainian- and English-language editions. The Collection is indexed in the following databases and catalogs: Google Scholar, Index Copernicus International, ERIH PLUS, WorldCat, Directory of Research Journals Indexing (DRJI), Bielefeld Academic Search Engine (BASE), Academic Research Index (ResearchBib), RefSeek, EuroPub and the Register of Scientific Publications of Ukraine.
The scientific journal Archives of Criminology and Forensic Sciences is a revival, since 2019, of the journal Archive of Criminology and Forensic Medicine, founded in 1926 by Honored Professor M. S. Bokarius. Its purpose is to advance Ukrainian research capacity by publishing the results of theoretical and applied research in criminology, forensic science, criminalistics, criminal procedure and other fields of knowledge. The journal is listed, indexed and archived in Google Scholar, OUCI, DOAJ, ResearchBib, WorldCat, Dimensions, BASE Search, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, HeinOnline, UkrINTEI, the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine and the Register of Scientific Publications of Ukraine.
Work is ongoing to have these specialized publications included in the Scopus and Web of Science citation databases.
Both specialized scientific publications have media identifiers (R-3002416 and R-3002417, respectively) and Certificates of State Registration of Printed Mass Media (КВ No. 24671-14611 ПР dated January 19, 2021 and КВ No. 24307-14147Р dated January 19, 2021).
Pursuant to Order No. 928 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated June 11, 2026, On the Inclusion of Scientific Periodicals in the List of Specialized Scientific Publications of Ukraine, both publications were included in the List of Specialized Scientific Publications of Ukraine within the Law cluster for a three-year period from June 1, 2026 through May 31, 2029 and assigned to Category “Б”.

MuseumsThe NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” continues to promote scientific knowledge and the history of forensic science through its museums, which form an important part of the Center’s scientific, educational and cultural activities.
The Office-Museum of Emeritus Professor Mykola Serhiiovych Bokarius attracts visitors with its rare exhibits and provides an opportunity to explore a rich scientific and cultural heritage. In 2025, the museum hosted 20 guided tours attended by 160 people. During the tours, visitors learned about the life and work of the distinguished scholar and founder of the Kharkiv scientific school of forensic experts, and attended thematic lectures. The museum exhibition helps preserve the memory of M. S. Bokarius’s scientific legacy and his contribution to the establishment and development of forensic science practice in Ukraine.
The Applied Research Museum of the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” reflects the history of the establishment and development of the Center and presents the main areas of its forensic activities. The museum’s unique exhibition introduces visitors to various aspects of forensic science, from bertillonage and fingerprinting to modern research methods in gemology, art history and other fields. The exhibits on display make it possible to trace the development of forensic examination methodologies, technical means and approaches to conducting forensic researches during different historical periods. In 2025, the museum hosted 20 guided tours attended by 160 people. In 2026, the exhibition of the Applied Research Museum of the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” was relocated to the Kyiv Branch of the Center.
The activities of the museums of the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” are aimed not only at preserving unique exhibits and historical materials but also at fostering interest in forensic science, promoting the Center’s scientific achievements and raising public awareness of the role of forensic science in the administration of justice.
The NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” places considerable emphasis on preserving and promoting the cultural heritage associated with the history and development of forensic science in Ukraine. Museum exhibitions are an important means of preserving historical memory, passing professional experience on to future generations of specialists and promoting the scientific achievements of the institution.

The Centre also took an active part in international projects aimed at developing forensic examination and documenting war crimes. An important component of international cooperation is the organisation of joint scientific events. In 2024, the NSC FSI organised three international scientific and practical conferences, as well as participated in conferences and seminars held in different countries.The exchange of experience with foreign colleagues is another important area of international cooperation of the NSC FSI. In 2024, the Centre’s specialists paid working visits to Latvia and the Netherlands, and also took part in educational seminars and trainings.International cooperation allows us to keep abreast of the latest scientific achievements, implement best practices and maintain a high level of forensic examination.

The scientific library of the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” is an important part of the infrastructure of the Center. It provides researchers, forensic experts and participants in educational programs with up-to-date information in the fields of forensic science, criminalistics and law. The library has extensive holdings comprising more than 30,000 publications, including unique and rare editions.Researchers and forensic experts regularly use library resources to conduct forensic examinations and prepare R&D projects. The library also regularly serves dissertation researchers and specialists undergoing training in forensic specializations.In 2024, the holdings of the library were relocated to the Kyiv Branch of the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” to support the educational process and preserve valuable publications. Work is ongoing to digitize the book collection and create an electronic library, making information more accessible to users.Library actively cooperates with other scientific libraries in Ukraine through the exchange of publications and professional experience. The Library regularly hosts guided tours and thematic exhibitions that promote scientific knowledge and contribute to the professional development of specialists. The holdings of the NSC «Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI» library are continuously expanded through partnerships of the NSC «Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI» in the fields of science and forensic science. During the reporting period, the holdings of the NSC «Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI» library were supplemented with new scientific and methodological works provided by government agencies, research institutions, forensic services, higher education institutions in the field of law, organizations including the Ukrainian National Bar Association (UNBA) and others, as well as collections of research papers and conference abstracts published in 2026 in print and electronic formats.The library holdings meet the standards applicable to scientific and educational activities. Proper operation of the scientific library is of considerable practical importance for obtaining up-to-date information on a wide range of issues and problems. The library provides access to current methodologies used to support the educational process and forensic activities at the NSC «Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI». The library plays an important role in increasing the publication activity of NSC «Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI» staff and helps maintain a high level of scholarly work, thereby enhancing the visibility and citation of their research in the national and international academic community.In February 2026, Institutional Repository of the Center became operational on the DSpace open-source software platform. The Institutional Repository of the National Scientific Center “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius Forensic Science Institute” of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the NSC FSI Repository (an electronic archive of academic texts), is the official electronic information system of the NSC “Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI” designed to collect, preserve and systematize academic texts in order to support educational, scientific, scientific and technical, and innovative activities by improving access to academic texts and promoting academic integrity. Institutional Repository of the NSC «Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius FSI» is integrated with the National Repository of Academic Texts, ensuring the widest possible access to research by Center staff for national and international academic communities.The repository sections contain full-text versions of dissertations for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Legal Sciences; monographs; abstracts; collections of proceedings from forums, conferences and roundtables; books; articles from the specialized scientific publications of Ukraine, Category “Б”, Theory and Practice of Forensic Science and Criminalistics and Archives of Criminology and Forensic Sciences (published by NSC “Hon.
