International Scientific and Practical Conference "Current Issues of Forensic Science and Criminalistics" Dedicated to the Memory of the Outstanding Scientist Vladyslav Fedorenko ("Fedorenko’s Readings")

On October 15, 2024, a large-scale event for scientists and forensic examiners was held as online conference – the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Current Issues of Forensic Science and Criminalistics" dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scientist Vladyslav Fedorenko ("Fedorenko’s Readings"), hosted by the National Scientific Center "Hon. Prof. M. S. Bokarius Forensic Science Institute" at the initiative of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
The event was opened by Andrii Haichenko, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine for Enforcement. Mr. Andrii noted that Vladyslav Fedorenko had passed away too early, which was a huge loss for the entire system of forensic science services providing for justice authorities, but the bright memories of the outstanding scientist and incredibly kind and decent person will forever remain in the memory of his students and colleagues. Today's International Scientific and Practical Conference confirms it.

Volodymyr Minenko, Deputy Director for Forensic Examinations at the NSC FSI, on behalf of the Director Serhii Tiulieniev and the Center's team, welcomed the event participants, noted the importance of holding the conference on Vladyslav Leonidovych's birthday, wished fruitful work, interesting discussions, new scientific discoveries, and presented conference proceedings.

The director of Forensic Science Support to Justice Department of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Nataliia Tkachenko, as well as the heads of scientific research institutions of forensic science of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine addressed the organizers and participants with greetings. Foreign partners also joined in the greetings: Aram Ganapetyan, Deputy Director for Forensic Examinationsof the State Non-Commercial Organization "National Bureau of Expertise" of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, and Olga Cataraga, Director at the National Center for Judicial Expertise under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova.

Conference participants in their scientific reports explored problematic issues of conducting forensic examinations, techniques and methods of examination during the investigation of criminal offenses, especially under martial law, proposals for the introduction of artificial intelligence to assist in criminalistics, and other relevant topics.
More than 170 scientists, forensic examiners, criminologists, and lawyers from Ukraine and other countries, including Moldova, Armenia, Israel, Montenegro, Hungary, and others, took part in the event.

Participants had the opportunity to discuss the most pressing issues of forensic science and criminalistics, exchange experiences, and determine the prospects for the further development of forensic sciences.

By holding this event, the memory of the outstanding scientist, laureate of the Yaroslav Mudryi Award and the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, author or co-author of nearly 500 scientific and educational publications, Vladyslav Leonidovych Fedorenko, who was constantly in creative search and tirelessly worked to implement scientific developments, was commemorated. The conference participants supported the initiative of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine to hold the 'Fedorenko’s Readings' in the future.
